Walk through Nature and History
Monte Fortin e Borgo Colmello | passeggiata tra natura, storia del ‘900 e tradizioni contadine dell'antico borgo
We will be in Borgo Colmello, a colonial housing complex restored to its former glory and now a popular cultural and social destination, to venture out to discover the traditions of this place and the events related to the Grande Guerra which, in the bucolic embrace of the local creeks, found more than a century ago bitter battleground.
In fact, starting from the village, after a distance of about half an hour, the hike will stop at the gunboats of the Monte Fortin, which preserves in its bowels some of the best-preserved military tunnels of World War I, hollowed out of the local ponca and fortified by the Italian Army's 5th Engineer Miners Company.
In fact, the mountain itself, because of its strategic location on the bend of the Soča River, has a long military history since pre-Roman and Roman times, not to forget its centrality in the Gradiscan wars of the 17th century.
We will then return to the village, where we will continue the visit at the Museum of Documentation of Friulian Peasant Civilization, bequest of the noble Strassoldo family and opened to the public at the behest of the then municipal administration. Its different sections, where now unobtainable relics of a world far back in time but finely interconnected with the local contemporary, illustrating everyday life, arts and knowledge related to the land, will be illustrated here.
